To My Dear Detractors...

Greetings! I'm not quite sure how many exactly am I addressing this letter to but I'm hoping there's not a lot of you out there. (I hope!). I just felt the need to write you a blog entry so I could defend myself from all your accusations and for you to see the side of my story.

I've been tempted to speak live on GUL4 and give you guys a message but I'm not the type to create an issue on national TV. I'm happy with my quiet, scandal-free life. And besides, it would be healthier to leave the show as it is since it's REALLY doing well. GUL has nothing to do with my personal life and I intend to keep it that way. In short, let's be professional here and segregade personal attacks towards me with the show itself.

Therefore, I COME IN PEACE. I wrote this to explain my side and not to provoke a fight. If you find some of my words offensive, you're just gonna have to deal with it because that's the way I am... NAGPAPAKATOTOO LANG PO. And besides, masasakit din naman ang mga sinasabi nyo so why would I step on my breaks? ALL IS FAIR IN LOVE AND WAR.

I've been hosting "Games Up Late Live" for 1 and a half years now, to be exact. Season 1 started July 2006 and ended kaagad on September because of the introduction of Pinoy Dream Academy. Due to public demand, it went back on air January 2007 and has been running since then which led us to Season 4.

To be honest, the producers (ABS-CBN Interactive) and I didn't see it lasting this long but it did! Why? Primarily because of the good ratings, consistent number of hits with the downloads, and dahil namimeet yung income quota per night.

I've given my blood, sweat, tears for this show for the past seasons. I work like a carabao and talk like a robot every single midnight. I've sacrificed my social life, privacy, dating opportunities, sex life, travel plans, time with friends and family just to keep this show running. In spite of that, I barely complain. (Except at certain moments when I'm becoming human... when I have PMS or if stress just explodes right in front of my face!)

I love the show... and so does a lot of late-night watchers. It makes my regular viewers happy and from what I've been hearing, I help cheer up broken hearted or depressed people that have difficulty sleeping at night... just like how I am when I'm dealing with personal issues. It's always hard to sleep at night with so much problems in your head weighing you down. That is why I lasted this long kahit puyat every night... because I know I make people smile before going to bed... and that's always been my objective.

I work SOOOOO freakin' hard for this show. I literally gave up my entire social life for it. I do whatever it is within my reach to make sure it's doing well and I please my viewers the best way I know how. I've always been a perfectionist so I give it my all for the love of the job.

Yet in spite all these, it's sad to know that there are still people like you who don't acknowledge the effort I put out there. You only notice the little minute details (that are actually forgettable!) and focus on that tiny dot instead of appreciating the big picture.

Diyos ko naman! Halos duguin na ko gabi-gabi kadadakdak at kapupuyat. Magkamali lang ako ng konti, parang mortal sin na. TAO LANG PO AKO. I hope you keep that in mind. HINDI AKO SI SUPERWOMAN.

I'm being patient with addressing all the concerns of my viewers on and off-cam, listening to instructions from my producers on my ear piece while making sure that there's no dead air on TV and my grammar is correct. I have to be constantly aware of the timer, the raising of prices, additional clues, the downloaders name, constant mentioning of the sponsors, and last minute greetings.

With all of these happening at the same time, I have to make sure that I look pretty on TV. I couldn't radiate an aura of stress or anxiety kahit minsan, nagloloko yung lights, hindi properly focused yung camera or the aircon is not working so I'm burning in UV rays. Bumaha, lumindol, umulan, bumagyo... everything has to look like a bed of roses on air.

At the same time, I have to entice people to keep download more and to stay awake. And the hardest of them all, there are no idiot boards, teleprompters, or cue cards. It's all up to me. The show relies entirely on my adlibs. Yup. That's right. Everything I say on TV is all ADLIBS. So... can you say it to my face that my job is easy?!?

Before I go on and on talking about the technical ups-and-downs of my job, let me give my defense on the common things that you guys are accusing me of. I'm writing this with the hopes of making you understand where I'm coming from and NOT to provoke you in any way. So once again, I COME IN PEACE BROTHERS AND SISTERS! Read away...

ACCUSATION #1: I TALK ABOUT MYSELF TOO MUCH.

MY REBUTTAL:

Since GUL started in Season 1, my producers told me to concentrate on the following topics... 1. The game for today. 2. How to join for 1st time downloaders. 3. Give tips to viewers on how to solve the game. 4. Remind them of what they need (enough load, fully charged battery, signal, etc.). 5. Entice people to just keep on downloading to win prizes. The rest is up to me.

If you watch the show closely enough, I talk about these things 90% of an entire episode up to the point where I'm getting sick of it sometimes. Nakukulitan na nga yung mga tao sakin minsan coz paulit-ulit na daw ako. C'mon guys. I'm not a robot. I can't say the same thing over and over again. Can you just give the remaining 10% to me as my own time of sharing my personal experiences to my viewers para naman hindi maging redundant?

Ano naman ang masama if may masingit lang ako na sharing about what happened to me that day? I'm not a robot or an operator programmed to talk about the same information over and over again. Meron din akong mga kwentong gusto i-share just like any normal human being. Kaya nyo lang nasasabi yan is because you ONLY hear me talking and no one else for 1 straight hour. But if you listen closely, para na nga akong sirang plaka since I keep saying "Download na!" paulit ulit. Magwelga kayo if the entire time, I only talk about myself! Minsan na nga lang ako humirit, mamasamain nyo pa. ANO BUZZ?!?!?!

AND JUST TO REMIND YOU, I don't have guests in my show. It's just me talking the entire time. If I have a co-host of guests all the time then I'd be willing to hear what they have to say as well. Kaso wala eh. So deal with it. It's the way the show has always been even if you look at the Endemol shows in other countries with the similar format. The host is alone talking about the game and sometimes, about themselves. Normal lang po yon kasi TAO LANG KAMI. HINDI ROBOT.

So kung madulas man ako at may nakwento ako about my cat or this rock song I listened to and it annoys the shit out of you, pasensya na... TAO LANG PO. Hindi po ako manikang de susi or computer na nakaprogram na ang sasabihin. The show is purely adlib too so ANYTHING GOES. Minsan I just end up talking about personal stuff because I'm honestly running out of words to say and the number 1 no-no in my show is DEAD AIR. So as to prevent that, I say the first thing that comes to my mind when I go blank. May masama ba don kung minsan lang naman nangyayari?!?

And gustuhin ko mang chikahin yung downloaders ko para may ibang bagay na mapag-usapan I'm also not allowed to so as not to waste time and madami pang matawagan so I'm really left on my own. And besides, anong gusto nyong ikwento ko if I'm done explaining the game mechanics? Do you want me to talk about my mom's interest? My brother's travel experiences? Tito Mario's life story? My ABSCBN handler Ate Abby's favorite color? Or some other person that you don't care about? HALLER?!?

Why would I talk about them when I know nothing about their life and I know you wouldn't care anyway?!? Hindi ako chismosa so I wouldn't talk about other people's business. I'd rather talk about me and suffer the consequences than talk about others and be reprimanded for it.

I sometimes, talk about myself because I want to add PERSONAL TOUCH to show and to my viewers... not in any way to sound narcissitic. I know some of my viewers are only watching for the game show but some can relate to me as person so I'm maximizing that aspect. I AM A PERSON WITH THOUGHTS TO SHARE. IF YOU'RE NOT HUMAN ENOUGH TO UNDERSTAND THAT, TOO BAD FOR YOU.

ACCUSATION #2: I BRAG ABOUT MY ACHIEVEMENTS.

MY REBUTTAL:

My dear detractor that's reading this, I have a question for you... have you ever wanted something so bad that you've been waiting for it all your life then finally it came?! Have you ever worked so hard for something and finally, the products of your hardwork arrived right in front of your doorsteps?! If yes, what's the first thing you can think of doing?! Diba share your happiness to the world?!

If your watching "American Idol", diba everytime they walk out of that audition room and they get the yellow paper, they scream to the top of their lungs and say "I'M GOING TO HOLLYWOOD!!!" They don't give a damn if people around them care at all or not, they share it anyway because they are happy and they've been waiting for it all their lives.

So huwag naman sana mamasamain ng iba diyan if I share the good things that's happening in my life on TV such as getting my US/European Visa, landing a good project, TV guestings, LaSalle winning over Ateneo on UAAP, etc. because I'M NOT SAYING THEM TO BRAG BUT TO SIMPLY SHARE THE HAPPINESS I CAN NO LONGER CONTAIN DEEP DOWN INSIDE. Wala kasi akong kausap sa studio but the camera so I don't see anything wrong with sharing the happiness I feel on TV which I totally deserve because I WORK HARD FOR IT.

And whenever I inform my viewers about going on vacation, I'm not saying that para mag-inggit at magyabang. I'm doing that so as my solid viewers, GUL fans, and my supporters as host of the show will not be shocked if I don't go on-air for a long time. I just want people to be informed of what's going on... why I will be gone. I just don't want them to think I left them just like that. It's called "DECENCY" to inform my audience and "GRACEFUL EXIT".

ACCUSATION #3: WRONG GRAMMAR.

MY REBUTTAL:

I admit. I have my grammatical errors in the show. Madami actually. And the staff of GUL are sometimes to preoccupied to notice it and correct me. I'M SORRY FOR THIS. I try to monitor each and every word that comes out of my mouth but sometimes, hindi talaga maiiwasan magkamali. Again, TAO LANG PO.

If you think I mispronounced certain words or say a certain wrong grammar, feel free to message me here in my website and say it as politely as you can. (Just like this person who pointed out "DIGESTIVE" system to me instead of "DIGESTION"!) I won't get offended as long as it was said in a constructive way.

But to my detractors who question my skill as a host just because I commit a few grammatical errors, give me some credits! Hosting is a skill. A talent. It's about connecting with the viewers. If you think a perfect grammar is the only ingredient to a good host, then why aren't all Speech teachers and English professors qualify to be TV hosts?! I don't have a built in "spell check" inside me ok? So give me a break. Don't question my worth as a host just because of a few errors.

ACCUSATION #4: I PLUG ABOUT UNNECESSARY THINGS LIKE SPONSORS, WEBSITES, JAYMEENATIX.

MY REBUTTAL:

Why do I plug my sponsors? Because it's part of my contract. They give me free stuff and in exchange, I plug them minimum of 2x a episode. What happens if I don't plug? My sponsors will back out and I will look like crap on TV. Got it?!?

Why do I plug my website? Because that's the only way I can connect to my viewers since they took out the "UP REACT" from the past seasons where downloaders can actually text in reactions, comments, etc. I have to hear what my viewers have in mind as well and thank them personally for appreciating my talent all these years. It's also part of my business as a host. Clients can book me through my website for hosting gigs and I can also promote my services as an artist to other parties that are interested. It's all about business expansion people. I paid A LOT for this website as an investment so might as well make the most out of it while I can.

Why do I greet my JAYMEENATIX? Because if not for them, I wouldn't be here. I'm grateful for them for giving me strength to keep on and continue entertaining in spite of encountering "narrow-minded" viewers who get into my nerves once in a while. I'm a very REAL person. I'm true to what I feel. What you see is what you get. The JAYMEENATIX are my support group. They help me get through at times when I feel like bursting on TV and give out the "finger" sign to you haters out there. They keep me sane. And with that, I believe they deserve to be acknowledged. No ifs. No buts.

ACCUSATION #5: I FLIRT TOO MUCH WITH STAFF ON AIR LIKE FATHER BENE AND TITO MARIO.

MY REBUTAL:

Tito Mario and Father Bene are the production heads of the show. They are responsible for the sound effects, clues, promos, mga kung anu-anong "pakulo", etc. And the reason why I'm somewhat flirting with them is to keep them awake and involved while the show is on going.

Kung ako nga na host na ng show ay nabuburn out na talking about the same thing every single midnight, SILA PA KAYA?!? Of course they get tired, of course they get sleepy. They've been in ABSCBN umaga palang as compared to me. I only go in at midnight. So imagine how exhausted they are by the time of GUL4.

Joking with them on-cam is my own way of making "lambing" to them and making them feel that they have a part in the show... and they aren't merely there to press buttons and come up with clues, etc. I WANT THEM TO FEEL IMPORTANT AS WELL and I want the viewers to connect to them too. I'm flirting with them for a reason not because POKPOK ako. I hope I made that clear enough.

ACCUSATION #6: I FLIRT TOO MUCH WITH MALE DOWNLOADERS WITH NICE SPEAKING VOICE.

MY REBUTTAL:

Susmaryosep, hindi na nga ako maligaw-ligawan dahil sa schedule ng trabaho ko. Wala na nga akong namimeet na boys. Pati ba naman eto ipagkakait nyo pa?!?!?

I'm a woman in my 20s. A normal human girl na pag may narinig na sexy voice of the opposite sex ay magrereact. ISN'T IT NORMAL TO FEEL THAT WAY?!? Maybe some of you aren't attracted to a nice speaking voice but I AM!!! To each his own people. TO EACH HIS OWN.

I'm single right now. I'm at the peak of my sexuality. And I love men. So what's wrong with reacting to a sexy voice on the other side of the line?!? HINDI AKO MANHID. I respond to stimulus. It's human to feel that way. I don't get to talk to anyone on the show since I'm all alone there so ibigay nyo na sakin to! Harmeless flirting is normal especially for single women like me. Magreact kayo if makipagphone sex ako with a downloader or I ask for his number on air so we could get in touch after!

ACCUSATION #7: INUUTO KO ANG MGA VIEWERS NG GUL4 TO DOWNLOAD.

MY REBUTTAL:

From my briefing with Endemol the day I got the job as a host for GUL, they told me the exact statements: "What is your job as host of the program? To facilitate the game, to entice people to join, and to make the show pleasing to the eyes."

So you can say whatever you want. All I can say is... I'M JUST DOING MY JOB. I'M GETTING PAID FOR IT. AND I LOVE IT MOST OF THE TIME... AND SO DOES A LOT OF PEOPLE.

Call me nang-uuto, call me a liar, call me all you want... but that's the way it's gotta be. My job is my job. And I'll stick to what I say on TV and what I do to get my viewers involved unless my producer tells me otherwise.

ACCUSATION #8: FAME IS GETTING INTO MY HEAD.

MY REBUTTAL:

Me? Famous? I still don't see it honey. I mean don't get me wrong. I've come a long way since Season 1... getting more projects, movie offers, and a telecom endorsement but I'm still not mainstream compared to Toni Gonzaga or Willie Revillame! I'm not even popular in TFC since my program is only aired here! I still have a long way to go compared to other big stars in the industry.

I think you guys think this way because I have changed over the years. Changed in a sense that I sound more confident now with the way I speak and I'm more vocal now with the way I feel. I have also established an identity now as compared to before when I was just starting wherein I'm being accussed of copying Mariel Rodriguez's style of hosting.

Yes I have changed. But only because I am feeling more comfortable with myself now. I know who I am as a person and as an artist. I know my capabilities and the market I am currently tapping. I have grown up. I started with lack of identity and lots of fear to not be accepted by the unforgiving televiewers. But now, I've overcome them all.

Things change. People grow up. The universe evolves. It's not that fame got into my head because I don't even consider myself that famous. It's more of I've established WHO I AM with open arms. The key is accpetance people. Accept who I've become because the "old" me will never come back. Either you take me as I am or you don't and turn off that TV.

ACCUSATION #9: I'M TRYING HARD.

MY REBUTTAL:

Yes I am trying hard... trying soooooo hard to stay awake at night and entertain my viewers with all my might even if I had a worse day, I just recovered from sickness, or my mom and I had a huge fight.

I'm trying sooooo hard to look good and smile even if I just cried the whole day from disappointment or frustration with the hopes of hiding everything under my make up.

I'm trying soooooooooooo hard to please the midnight crowd by myself even if I can't seem to entertain myself due to certain personal issues and quarterly life crisis.

I'm trying hard to make everyone understand that my job is not easy but I do it because I love it anyway and I know that some people are out there waiting for me to make them happy.

I'm trying sooooo hard to be strong even at times when I just wanna stop and do something else because I know if I do that, I will regret it.

So yes, I AM TRYING HARD. (I hope you're happy now.)

ACCUSATION #10: OTHER BULLSHIT THAT YOU'RE ACCUSING ME THAT I'M NOT AWARE OF.

MY REBUTTAL:

Blah blah blah... say whatever you want my dearly beloved detractors. I'm done dealing with your bullshit. I'm done talking now. I've said my piece and if everything's still not clear for you, then it's not my problem anymore. I said what I feel and I'm being TRUE to myself. That's the most important thing.

What is the point of all me defending myself?! I explained all of these just so you'd know what exactly is happening on and off-cam. As a detractor, I want you to see everything through my eyes. Then maybe, just MAYBE, when you see right through, you might change your perception about me. But I'm telling you now that I'M NOT PERFECT AND I WILL NEVER BE.

I can't please everybody no matter how hard I try. And I know I can't make you like me if you don't really want to. No matter what I say or do, you will always see something wrong with my spiels in the show, point out certain grammatical mistakes, find my outfit "baduy", think I'm pa-cute, a pokpok, gold digger, or what-have-you names.

So bottom line, thank you for reading this.

Thank you for taking the time to watch my show daily even if you can't stand me talking there and I annoy the shit out of you. Thank you for still visiting my website even if you hate my gutts. Thank you for your undivided attention.

I didn't write this blog to convince you to change your mind and like me. Although it would be really nice if that happens now that you know where I'm coming from, but it's still your decision. So if you still wanna live in the world of hatred and you'll do whatever it takes to kick me out of the show, you're very welcome to feel that way. It's your life and feelings honey. I ain't changing it for you.

However, should you feel the need to lessen your stress from watching me, I strongly advice that you turn off your TV or find a new program to watch. I keep saying over and over again that MY OBJECTIVE IS TO MAKE EVERY FILIPINO SMILE BEFORE GOING TO BED AT MIDNIGHT so if I don't give you that effect, save yourself from anger and find another show to watch or better yet, just turn off your TV and go to sleep. I don't wanna hear people experiencing stress and angst because of me. So it's probably best to keep it that way.

I wish you a happy life my detractors! I've been through so much pain in my many years of existence so I'm a lot stonger than you think. Whatever issues you are dealing with right now that's why you're behaving the way you do, I hope you find the answers real soon. I REALLY DO. I wish you well.

anyweiz, ilang beses na rin ako nakanood ng live sa studio ng GUL...hndi po madali ang ginagawa ni jaymee nkkta namin sia...mkhang madli sa tv pero indi po... as in tama xia kung wala siang guests dun para siang baliw na ngsslita magisa...dahil camera lng ang kaharap nia sa studio...dhl ung mga tao dun nasa control booth...

hayz, tao lng din po xia katulad ntn..ngkakamali....NOBODY IS PERFECT IN THIS WORLD!!!! LAHAT TAYO AY NAGKAKAMALI!!!!

It's sad though when something like this happen, where rational thinking is lost and overcome by mere differences in opinions. True colors have surface dramatically, wisdom had change to ignorance and ignorance to stupidity. No one had listen to the pleas made by the owner of this site, and she was even accused of being biased.

Why I wonder, is it due to the fact that they think they have every right to say things and forget that little thing we call respect? In that regard I can therefore say that such, is a show of how much "intelligence" some of us possessed when things dont go the way we want it to be.

And with all these drama and hullabaloo, I can only say that ms. Jaymee(Kabagang) is only human, she is not a saint…TAO po siya!

well..grabe! i felt dizzy on ur blog ms. jaymee..but i read it up to the end.. im not a jaymeenatix but im a fan of yours.. i do watch GUL..due to the lack of allowance i didn't download much..actually ala pa sa 10 downloads..

i watched because of her..d nakakasawa muka nia..cute xang manamit! fashionista! i get a tips on her on how would she dressed up every midnyt..tagal naman ng dresses na i-sasale mo...hehe..ganda ng mga rym words..basta.. jaymee joaquin is a plus on the show..

We cant make all people understand us, we have to accept that having the opportunity to speak doesn't always give us the privilege to be understood..

ur detractors is always there! its their job..yaan mo sila..keep on living.. dont keep on thinking what their accusations.. focus on ur job ms. jaymee..and to the thindgs that will make u happy..fuck them ok..! dont think about them..dont think about evrything insead pray about evrything..

Whoever says that hosting an Interactive Show like Games Uplate Live is just as simple as nothing...THINK AGAIN! A recent studio pass...of the said show last April 17, 2007 has taught me of various technical complexities which would surely drive every staff/crew and above all the HOST, crazy!

While having the convenience of watching the show through our respective television sets at home, we see virtual tables/charts appearing and disappearing with word(s) and/or number(s) etc., inisde the studio, you can see nothing but just a green backdrop. Thus, seeing Jaymee doing the show live inside the studio is like watching her so consumed by her own world, talking to nobody else but by herself (nakakaluwag ng turnilyo yun mga 'tol).

Despite all these..."Kabagang" (Jaymee) has managed to keep herself intact, focused to the mechanics of the game and being spontaneous to her own spiels to the best of her ability.

So, the next time we caught her unconsciously giving utterances to sometimes wrong and out of this world choices of words, we already know and have reached a better understanding na at times, naloloka din siya! Hehehe! Peace yo!

I'm giving credits to the staff and crew of Games Uplate Live for their perseverance of keeping such late at night show continuously running with high impact to tele-viewers and to Kabagang Jaymee's unparalleled talent and love for her craft (hosting/loving the show and the kabagangs)...saludo po ako sayo! --Kuya HUTCH

being a nocturnal person, i've established a habbit of watching GUL-4. oo enjoy ako manuod sa mga interactive shows. detached ako sa tao and feeling ko yung mga tao sa set ng interactive shows ay detached din. bihira lang ako magdownload. walang budget e. estudyante pa lang tapos bakasyon pa ngayon.

anyhow. i'm still a fan of yours.
